The United States has highlighted the key role of the Port of Colombo in both regional and global trade. They stressed the importance of better maritime security and smoother port operations. In a message on X (previously known as Twitter), U.S. Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, Sergio Gor, mentioned that he observed the port’s activities with the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority. He stated, “It’s clear how this critical hub connects South Asia to global markets—and why maritime security here matters.” Gor pointed out that the partnership between the U.S. and Sri Lanka aims to promote safe and transparent trade, assist in improving port efficiency, and protect supply chains. He added that these initiatives directly affect U.S. manufacturers and consumers.
