Trump considers winding down Iran war, says others must guard Strait of Hormuz
President Donald Trump stated that the United States is “very close” to reaching its goals in the conflict with Iran and hinted at a possible reduction of military actions. He called on other countries to take charge of securing the Strait of Hormuz. In a post on Truth Social on Friday, Trump highlighted what he called significant military achievements against Iran. He mentioned, “We are getting very close to meeting our objectives as we consider winding down our great military efforts in the Middle East with respect to the Terrorist Regime of Iran.” Trump listed several successes, which included weakening Iran’s military strength. He claimed, “Completely degrading Iranian missile capability, destroying Iran’s defense industrial base, eliminating their Navy and Air Force.” He reassured that the US would prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Trump also noted that Washington had strengthened ties with its regional allies. “Protecting, at the highest level, our Middle Eastern allies, including Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, and others,” he wrote. A significant part of Trump’s message was urging nations that depend on the Strait of Hormuz to take responsibility for its security, indicating a change in US policy. “The Hormuz Strait will have to be guarded and policed, as necessary, by other nations who use it — The United States does not!” he stated. He added that while the US could offer support, it should not be required. “If asked, we will help these countries in their Hormuz efforts, but it shouldn’t be necessary once Iran’s threat is eradicated.” Trump described the task as manageable and said securing this crucial shipping route would be “an easy military operation” for those nations.
