The Sri Lanka Banks’ Association (SLBA) has confirmed that banks will keep operating five days a week as an essential service, even with new measures to save fuel and energy. Banks will be open from Monday to Friday, including Wednesdays, but on Wednesdays, they will only function from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This means customers can access important banking services without interruptions throughout the week, as stated by the SLBA. To support the country’s goals during this time, the SLBA is encouraging customers to use digital banking options more often, such as mobile banking apps and online banking services for their everyday transactions. Customers are also advised to limit their trips and visit bank branches only when necessary. The statement highlighted that these actions are part of a larger effort to conserve fuel and energy, and urged the public to participate by reducing non-essential travel and cutting down on unnecessary energy use. The SLBA is optimistic that the current global issues affecting fuel supplies will stabilize soon, helping Sri Lanka’s economy to keep moving forward without significant delays. The Sri Lanka Banks’ Association serves as the main organization for all Licensed Commercial Banks and Licensed Specialised Banks in the country.
