President urges EV owners to recharge their vehicles during daytime
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has made an important appeal to electric vehicle owners in light of the current energy situation in Sri Lanka. He has encouraged EV owners to charge their vehicles during the day to help lessen the high demand for electricity that occurs between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. This statement was made by the President at a press conference focused on the ongoing situation in the country. He reassured the public that there is no immediate need for power cuts in Sri Lanka. According to President Dissanayake, the plans laid out by officials do not include any scheduled power outages at this time. However, he warned that the uncertain situation caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East makes it difficult to predict future energy limits. Currently, there are no planned power cuts, but future decisions will depend on how the conflict develops. Authorities have noted that the highest electricity demand in Sri Lanka occurs between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. The rise in electric vehicle usage has significantly increased this demand, adding about 300 megawatts to the load during peak hours compared to previous years. As a result, officials are asking EV owners to charge their vehicles during the day when there is extra electricity available, helping to balance the power grid.
