Most issues with fuel QR system resolved, says Cabinet Spokesperson
On March 17, 2026, at 04:18 pm, Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa announced that the majority of problems with the fuel QR code system have been fixed. He explained that vehicle owners who have a QR code and have not changed their registration number can keep using their existing QR code without issues. For those whose vehicle registration numbers have changed, new QR codes can now be obtained, and this process has been completed successfully. Minister Jayatissa also mentioned that all problems related to newly purchased vehicles have been addressed, and the system for issuing QR codes for these vehicles is now fully operational. He noted that the main remaining issue involves changes in vehicle ownership, where previous QR codes were not removed correctly. However, this problem is currently being addressed. At this time, about 30,000 vehicles are being registered in the system every hour, which Minister Jayatissa highlighted as a significant achievement. Despite the high demand on the system, most issues with the QR code system have been effectively resolved, he added.
