Israel launched an attack on Ali Larijani, the leader of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, during a strike in Tehran on Monday night, as reported by an Israeli military spokesperson. The Israeli military is currently waiting for a battle damage assessment to find out if Larijani was killed in the operation. On Tuesday morning, Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, the Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), stated, “We recorded significant achievements in Iran last night.” The IDF conducted a series of coordinated strikes on Monday evening targeting the cities of Tehran, Shiraz, and Tabriz. While the IDF did not specifically mention Larijani as a target, they identified missile production facilities and command centers as their objectives. Zamir explained during a situation report that, “Alongside the ongoing damage and erosion of military capabilities and industrial production capacities, we are acting against elements of the Revolutionary Guards and the regime’s repression apparatus.” In a separate attack a few days prior, Israel also targeted high-ranking officials in Palestinian Islamic Jihad, a militant group in Gaza backed by Iran, according to an Israeli source speaking to CNN.
