123kg of heroin worth over Rs. 3 billion found on seized fishing trawler off Dondra

The Sri Lanka Navy has discovered around 123 kilograms of heroin on a fishing trawler it seized in waters south of Dondra, as reported by Deputy Minister of Defence Aruna Jayasekara. The trawler was taken to Dikkowita Fisheries Harbour for an official inspection. During this inspection, authorities found six sacks containing 123 individual packets of heroin, totaling 123 kilograms. The Deputy Minister noted that this drug shipment has an estimated street value exceeding Rs. 3 billion. The Navy intercepted the fishing trawler yesterday, on the 15th. Five individuals aboard the vessel were arrested by the Navy. After the trawler arrived at Dikkowita Harbour, the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) took over the arrests. Additionally, Deputy Minister Aruna Jayasekara mentioned that the Sri Lanka Navy has also seized another fishing trawler suspected of carrying drugs off the coast of Beruwala. He added that this second vessel is currently being brought to shore.
