Iran has claimed that the United States is hindering rescue efforts after its IRIS Dena warship sank near Sri Lanka earlier this month. Esmaeil Baghaei, the spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, stated that the vessel was invited by the Indian Navy to join a naval exercise and port visit when it was attacked near the waters of India and Sri Lanka on Wednesday. In a message on X, Baghaei called the attack a “brutal act that amounts to a war crime” and accused the United States of “intentionally blocking rescue operations for the sailors.” Iran reports that 104 sailors lost their lives in this incident. Previously, it was noted that the remains of 84 sailors have been identified and will be returned to Iran with the help of the Sri Lankan government.
