Iran attacks breach international law, Swiss Defence Minister says
Swiss Defence Minister Martin Pfister stated in an interview on Sunday that the United States and Israel have violated international law with their attacks on Iran. This statement makes him the latest European leader to express concerns over the ongoing conflict. Legal experts suggest that many nations will view these attacks as unjustified according to the United Nations Charter. This charter requires member countries to avoid using force or threats without U.N. approval or unless they are defending themselves. Pfister explained to SonntagsZeitung that the Swiss Federal Council believes the attack on Iran breaks international law. He emphasized that it contravenes the prohibition of violence and urged all involved parties to stop fighting to protect civilians. Pfister specifically mentioned nations that do not follow this prohibition, including the United States and Israel. He stated, “The Americans and Israel have attacked Iran from the air. In doing so, they, like Iran, violated international law.” His remarks align with those of German Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil, who expressed to the RND newspaper network that he has “serious doubts that this war is legitimate under international law.” Klingbeil also firmly opposed any possibility of Germany joining the conflict, declaring, “I say clearly: this is not our war. We will not participate in this war.”
