US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth confirmed today that a US submarine sank an Iranian warship that believed it was secure in international waters of the Indian Ocean. He stated, “Instead, it was sunk by a torpedo.” Earlier reports from the Sri Lankan navy indicated that the IRIS Dena went down in the Indian Ocean, with around 180 individuals thought to be on board. Hegseth did not specify the name of the Iranian vessel that was struck. He added, “In the Indian Ocean—an American submarine sunk an Iranian warship, that thought it was safe in international waters. Instead, it was sunk by a torpedo—Quiet Death.”
