PM Modi to begin his Israel visit today, defence and trade on agenda
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will start his visit to Israel today, focusing on improving defence and trade ties between India and Israel. This visit will elevate their relationship to a "special strategic partnership," making it similar to Israel's connections with the US and Germany, according to sources on Tuesday. This two-day trip marks PM Modi's second visit to Israel in nine years. His first trip in July 2017 raised the India-Israel relationship to a strategic partnership level. The new "special strategic partnership" agreement will enhance their cooperation, allowing for joint development of advanced defence systems and mutual support in difficult times. Sources informed PTI that India and Israel have been dependable partners through various crises, and this visit will formally acknowledge that bond. Upon arrival, PM Modi will be welcomed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife, Sara. The two leaders will have a private meeting right after a short reception. After this, PM Modi will travel to the city of Jerusalem, where he plans to meet members of the Indian community. He will also address the Knesset, Israel's parliament, an honor given to select world leaders. On Wednesday evening, PM Modi will participate in an exhibition showcasing Israel's technological advancements, alongside top Israeli business leaders. Netanyahu will host a private dinner for PM Modi that night. On Thursday morning, the Indian Prime Minister will visit Yad Vashem to pay tribute to Holocaust victims, followed by a meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog.
