The Minister of Housing Construction and Water Supply, Susil Ranasinghe, revealed plans to build 31,000 houses this year as part of the national housing program. He mentioned that the 2026 National Housing Programme, called “A Place to Belong - A Beautiful Life,” will kick off tomorrow (25). This housing project will take place in 13 districts, according to the minister. The National Housing Development Authority will help around 10,000 families, with a budget of Rs. 10,000 million set aside for this purpose. Each family chosen will receive a grant of Rs. 1 million to build their house, which does not need to be paid back. “The program will officially start tomorrow with the distribution of cheques totaling Rs. 1,500 million to 1,500 families in 13 districts for the construction of 1,500 houses,” he added.
