The Department of Posts in Sri Lanka has announced a change in domestic postal rates, effective today, September 9. The cost of sending a standard letter has increased from Rs. 50 to Rs. 70. The registration fee, however, will stay the same at Rs. 60. The weight limit for ordinary and business letters has been updated from 20 grams to 30 grams. Additionally, the maximum weight for leaflets has been raised from 100 grams to 120 grams, according to the Postal Department. Starting tomorrow, the postage for letters sent by charitable, social service, and voluntary groups will rise from Rs. 30 to Rs. 50. Furthermore, the special registration fee for Ministries and Government Departments will go up from Rs. 110 to Rs. 130, and the cost of a postcard will now be Rs. 40, up from Rs. 20. The Department also confirmed that the fees for standard parcels and the Sri Lanka Post Courier service will not change. Other adjustments have been made to services like advertising mail, Telemail, stamped envelopes, mail bag services, and the minimum surcharge for unpaid or underpaid mail items.
