Showers are expected in various parts of Sri Lanka today, October 29, according to the Department of Meteorology. The Uva province and the districts of Ampara, Batticaloa, Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, and Polonnaruwa will experience rain at times. Some areas may receive heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm. Additionally, the Northern province, along with Kandy, Anuradhapura, and Trincomalee districts, will also see several spells of showers. In Sabaragamuwa province and the districts of Galle, Matara, and Kaluthara, showers or thundershowers are likely after 2:00 p.m. The report indicates that fairly strong winds, reaching about 40 km/h, may occur over the Eastern slopes of the central hills, as well as in the Northern, North-central, and North-western provinces, and in Hambantota, Monaragala, and Trincomalee districts. Misty conditions are anticipated in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces, including Galle and Matara districts, during the early morning hours. The public is advised to take necessary precautions to reduce the risk of damage from temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
