President Sirisena says SLFP CC will decide on continuation of National Government

President Maithripala Sirisena had informed yesterday’s Cabinet Meeting in Colombo, that a final decision on whether the SLFP would continue to be part of the National Unity Government, would be taken at today’s SLFP Central Committee Meeting.

Informed sources said that Megapolis Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka told the President, in the presence of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe that there were three options; the SLFP could continue with the current arrangement, a UNP led administration formed with the SLFP Ministers who had abstained from voting for last weeks no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in Parliament or the SLFP must leave the government altogether.

President Sirisena said there was a division of opinion in the SLFP. “A final decision on the future of the national government would be taken by the SLFP Central Committee which would meet again today”, he added.

None of the SLFP Ministers attended yesterday’s meeting.
