1.2 million residents still distressed by drought

The Disaster Management Centre states that over 1.2 million residents are still being negatively impacted by drought conditions in 17 districts.

the Mahaweli Authority says that as a result, a number of reservoirs continue to experience low water levels.

Currently water levels recorded at the Randenigala, Victoria, Kotmale, and Samanala-waeva reservoirs are   7.4%, 16.7%, 28.5%, 24.5% respectively.

However  Mahaweli Authority has stated that the water levels at Castle-reigh and Mausakele reservoirs are much higher, where the capacity has been recorded at 73.5 %.

In addtion Bovataenna reservoir is at 57.9%.
