LNP – MP publishes pay sheet on his FB account and reveals all perks of MPs
Opposition MP Jagath Vithana has published his pay sheet on Facebook and has thus become the only MP to do so.
Accordingly he has revealed all the perks which a Sri Lankan MP is entitled for.
An MP’s monthly allowance comes to Rs 54,285, entertainment allowance Rs 1000, telephone allowance Rs 50,000, sitting allowance Rs 5000, office allowance Rs. 100,000, fuel allowance Rs 97, 428.92 and transport allowance Rs 15,000.
His net salary comes to Rs 317, 760. 39. As per the pay sheet the monthly deductions include Rs 1200 for catering, and Rs 3, 728.53 as personal income tax while further Rs 25 is deducted as stamp fees.
When contacted by Daily Mirror the MP said he decided to publish the pay sheet as he uses his entire salary for social work. “Earlier I decided not to accept the salary. However I decided later that I should draw the salary and use it totally for social service work rather than allowing it to be used by the treasury. Actually I spent twice the amount of my salary for social work. Those in my electorate aware of what I do,” he said.
“I don’t need a salary as I am a businessman,” he added.
