Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization announced that the United States and Israel attacked near the Bushehr nuclear power plant on Tuesday evening, according to IRNA. Initial reports indicate there were no injuries or damage to the facility. The head of an international nuclear safety agency expressed concern after Iran reported the incident near the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant. Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), urged “maximum restraint to avoid nuclear safety risks during conflict” in a message posted on the platform X. The IAEA, based in Vienna, Austria, works to ensure the safe use of nuclear technology around the world. Iran confirmed that its nuclear power plant and its workers were unharmed in the attack. The country stated that U.S. and Israeli forces carried out strikes around Bushehr. The Atomic Energy Organization emphasized in a Tuesday post on X that attacking peaceful nuclear facilities is a serious violation of international laws and poses a significant threat to regional security. These strikes came after President Trump mentioned on Monday that there had been “good and productive” peace talks with Iran, and a senior Iranian official noted that Iran’s leaders were considering a U.S. proposal. Following the breakdown of negotiations on a nuclear deal, the U.S. and Israel began joint military actions against Iran.
