In Nuwara Eliya, about 60% of children starting grade one in local schools have been found to have dental problems, says Dr. M. H. A. M. Irshan, the Medical Officer of Health in Maskeliya. He shared this information during an oral health awareness event at the Maskeliya MOH office, which was part of World Oral Health Day. Dr. Irshan expressed concern over the findings from a clinical survey, especially in the areas of Ambagamuwa, Maskeliya, and Bogawantalawa. He mentioned that this year’s event was the fourth time they have promoted good oral health habits, showcasing projects from early childhood development centres. He added that these awareness programs for kids and parents have helped reduce poor oral health by about 60%.
