The Commissioner-General of Essential Services, B.K. Prabhath Chandrakeerthi, has released detailed guidelines to help reduce fuel usage in state-owned vehicles in Sri Lanka. He stated that the public sector operates around 92,000 vehicles. The guidelines suggest that if every vehicle saves just one litre of fuel daily, it would lead to a total savings of 92,000 litres each day. This could result in a monthly savings of about 9.2 million litres and an annual savings of roughly 110 million litres. To reach these goals, Chandrakeerthi has directed all state agencies to start a formal fuel-saving program. This initiative includes organizing awareness sessions for the relevant officials and drivers to ensure these conservation efforts are put into practice effectively.
