Cabinet nod to appoint expert committee to develop energy economy

The Cabinet of Ministers in Sri Lanka has given the green light to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake's suggestion to create an expert committee led by Dr. Hans Wijesuriya. This committee's goal is to advance the energy economy. The government understands that finding new and innovative methods is crucial for sustainable growth in the national economy, as stated by the Department of Government Information. Although the energy economy is a key area, Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Nalinda Jayatissa pointed out that poor coordination among major economic sectors has slowed down investment in this field. To address this issue, the President stressed the importance of a unified economic development plan in the 2026 budget, as mentioned by the Minister during the weekly Cabinet media briefing. Consequently, the Cabinet has approved the President's plan to form an expert committee, headed by Dr. Hans Wijesuriya, to create a framework that develops the energy economy in line with national policies and strategies.
