Bus fares in Sri Lanka may be adjusted again in July as part of the national bus fare policy, according to Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa. He shared this information during the weekly Cabinet media briefing on the 24th at the Department of Government Information. When asked about the possibility of fare changes, Minister Jayatissa explained that decisions would depend on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and would be made at the right time. He stressed that the government aims to provide relief to the public. The Minister also mentioned that if fuel prices go down, the savings could be passed on to the public, potentially allowing for a decrease in current bus fares. He added, “I don’t believe there will be a need for that now. Right now, there is a war in the Middle East, which has led to higher fuel prices. Future choices will depend on how this situation develops. If the conflict worsens and supply chains are affected, we may have to make those kinds of decisions. However, we are trying to give as much relief as we can to the public. If fuel prices drop and the government can help, we can talk about lowering bus fares again.”
