The Commissioner General of Essential Services has provided a detailed set of guidelines aimed at saving fuel and energy for all Ministry Secretaries, Provincial and District Secretaries, and leaders of government and statutory organizations. These guidelines were released yesterday, on the 22nd, due to potential interruptions in fuel imports caused by rising tensions in the Middle East. The guidelines recommend that officials should refrain from using personal vehicles for their daily commutes and opt for public transport or carpooling whenever feasible. Institutions are also asked to develop daily transportation plans to reduce the number of vehicles used for fieldwork. To save electricity and energy, the guidelines suggest using natural light as much as possible, cutting back on air conditioning by switching to electric fans, and encouraging the use of stairs instead of elevators. Local government bodies have been told to turn off streetlights when they are not needed and to temporarily disable street lighting in low-security areas for safety reasons. Additionally, the use of televisions in government offices during the day is not encouraged. Instructions concerning how institutions should operate have also been given. Where technology allows, leaders are encouraged to let employees work from home instead of coming into the office.
