Iran fired two missiles at UK-US Diego Garcia military base on Friday - UK defence secretary confirms

UK Defence Secretary John Healey confirmed in the House of Commons today that Iran launched two missiles at the joint UK-US Diego Garcia military base on Friday. He stated, “In the early hours of Friday morning, two Iranian missiles were aimed at Diego Garcia.” He added, “One missile fell short, and the other was intercepted before it could reach its target.” He emphasized, “Neither missile came close to Diego Garcia.” Healey also mentioned that the UK did not need to respond and that normal operations at the base continue. Over the weekend, the attack received extensive media coverage, with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper condemning the “reckless Iranian threats.” Diego Garcia is a crucial, restricted military base for the US and UK in the Indian Ocean, located around 1,700 km south of Sri Lanka.
