Bus services in several areas of Sri Lanka are facing disruptions today (23), despite a limited number of buses running, as reported by Dr. Nilan Miranda, the Director General of the National Transport Commission (NTC). He mentioned that bus services on expressways have completely stopped, forcing passengers to take alternative routes on regular roads. Dr. Miranda also pointed out that all buses operated by the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) are functioning normally, but there has been a decrease in private bus services. In addition, the NTC plans to present a proposal for a bus fare increase to the Cabinet later today (23). He indicated that the public would be informed once the proposal receives approval. The Commission is asking for a fare hike of more than 10% and has created 350 new fare categories, covering a range from the lowest to the highest fares.
