Vehicle parking fee collection in Colombo to resume tomorrow – CMC

The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) will start collecting vehicle parking fees again tomorrow, the 23rd. The Municipal Commissioner shared that this decision was made during a meeting of the Standing Committee on Finance. As a result, parking management and fee collection will follow the usual schedule beginning at 6:00 a.m. The collection of parking fees had been put on hold since March 18 because of heavy traffic and long lines of vehicles at fuel stations in the city. However, the CMC mentioned that the situation has improved with the launch of the National Fuel Pass, a QR code system, and the distribution of fuel based on vehicle registration numbers, which has reduced fuel queue lengths. With traffic now more manageable, the council believes it is the right time to bring back the regular parking fee system in Sri Lanka.
