Two suspects arrested over Army Upul murder in Ragama
Police have revealed new information about the murder of ‘Army Upul,’ who was a close associate of ‘Ganemulla Sanjeewa,’ in the Batuwatta region of Ragama. The shooting took place on July 3 last year, executed by two men who arrived in a three-wheeler and fled the scene after firing a pistol. During the investigation by the Peliyagoda Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau, one of the gunmen was apprehended on March 17. Further inquiries led to the arrest of another suspect in Madampe on March 18. This 29-year-old man was accused of helping the gunman by providing transportation. While being questioned, it emerged that he had also been involved in a shooting at a home in Ja-Ela on March 7. Police seized a 12-bore firearm, 14 rounds of 12-bore ammunition, and a motorcycle with fake number plates from his house. Additionally, on March 19, another person who was involved in the murder of ‘Army Upul’ was arrested in Wellampitiya. This 35-year-old suspect is also under investigation. Authorities have discovered that both suspects were tied to another incident where someone was severely injured in a sword attack in Madampe on July 14 last year. The suspects are currently in custody at the Ragama Police Station, where further investigations are ongoing.
