A 32-year-old businessman from Mutur, Sri Lanka, was arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) early today, October 20, for trying to smuggle over 5 kilograms of Kush cannabis. The value of the drugs is estimated to be around Rs. 51.4 million. According to a report from Ada Derana, the suspect bought the cannabis in Bangkok, Thailand, before traveling to Bengaluru, India. He arrived in Katunayake on IndiGo flight 6E-1183 around 12:30 a.m. During a thorough check of his luggage, officials found 5.140 kilograms of the illegal drug hidden in four packets. The cannabis was cleverly concealed in false bottoms of two suitcases. The suspect is set to appear before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court today, where authorities will likely request a detention order to continue their investigation into this case.
