Epstein s personal lawyer tells Congress he had no knowledge of financier s crimes
Jeffrey Epstein's personal lawyer informed a congressional committee on Thursday that he had "no knowledge whatsoever" of any wrongdoing by his client. The US House Oversight Committee summoned Darren Indyke, who handled Epstein's legal matters and estate, as part of its investigation into the crimes of the late financier. In his prepared statement, Indyke noted that he did not "socialise" with Epstein and emphasized that "not a single woman has ever accused me of committing sexual abuse or witnessing sexual abuse." James Marsh, an attorney for several of Epstein's victims, expressed concern over Indyke's claim of ignorance about Epstein's extensive abuse of women and girls. The committee's Republican chairman, James Comer, mentioned to reporters that Indyke was "answering all our questions" during the private session. In remarks shared with the press, Indyke also stated that no woman had brought any allegations of abuse against Epstein to his attention. He described himself as "one of many attorneys whom Mr. Epstein regularly consulted." Indyke, who first met Epstein in 1996, told the committee that his client had "appeared to be devastated and extremely contrite" after pleading guilty in 2008 to soliciting a minor for prostitution. “He was adamant that he had no idea anyone involved was underage,” Indyke said. “I believed him, and I made the mistake of trusting Mr. Epstein would not commit a crime again.” Marsh, representing the victims, highlighted the troubling nature of Indyke's lack of knowledge, especially given his long-term role as Epstein's attorney.
