India, Sri Lanka discuss boosting farm productivity through cost-effective technology
India's High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, met with K.D. Lal Kantha, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land, and Irrigation, on Thursday. They talked about ways to work together to improve the use of cost-effective technology to help farmers earn more money. The two officials also discussed important regional and global issues. The Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka shared a statement on X, saying, "High Commissioner Santosh Jha met Hon K.D. Lal Kantha, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land & Irrigation. They discussed opportunities for collaboration to increase productivity, especially through cost-effective technology to boost farmer’s incomes. They also reviewed regional and global developments, highlighting the need for India and Sri Lanka to collaborate." Additionally, on Wednesday, Santosh Jha and Professor A H M H Abayarathna opened a new 240 ft wide Bailey Bridge on the Chilaw-Thoduwawa Road, built by the Indian Army as part of India’s USD 450 million post-disaster aid. This bridge is important for restoring a key coastal connection along the Colombo-Puttalam route.
