No-confidence motion against Energy Minister to be submitted to Speaker today

A no-confidence motion against Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody will be presented to the Speaker of Parliament today, the 19th. This motion, signed by members of the opposition, accuses the Minister of failing to ensure that enough quality coal is procured for the Lakvijaya Coal Power Plant located in Norochcholai. The opposition argues that this serious neglect of a crucial national energy resource is a major failure of a minister's duties. Additionally, they note that the Minister of Energy has been charged in the Colombo High Court by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) for corruption related to his previous role as the Procurement Manager at the Ceylon Fertilizer Company Limited. Parliamentarian Ajith P. Perera confirmed that the motion will be submitted this morning. In other news, the opposition will also hold a debate today in Parliament on the current global situation. According to the Department of Communication of Parliament, this debate is scheduled from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. It will continue tomorrow, the 20th, with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake expected to be present to share his opinions.
