The Colombo High Court has scheduled a recall of the case against former Minister Udaya Gammanpila for March 27, 2026. He faces accusations of misusing company shares worth Rs. 20 million belonging to an Australian businessman by creating a fake Power of Attorney. This case was discussed today, March 17, before Judge Nadee Aparna Suwandurugoda. After reviewing the information presented, the judge decided to set the next hearing for March 27, 2026. The Attorney General brought this case against Udaya Gammanpila and businessman Sydney Jayasinghe during the 'Yahapalana' (Good Governance) Government. The prosecution claims that between September 26, 1996, and September 25, 1997, Gammanpila unlawfully misappropriated Rs. 20 million by selling 21 million shares of a private bank. These shares had been bought under the name of Digital Nominees Private Limited, a company owned by Australian businessman Brian Shaddick.
