China calls for immediate cease to military operations, after Trump s comments

China has reacted to comments made by President Trump during an interview with the Financial Times, a UK newspaper. Trump had warned that he might postpone a summit with Chinese leader Xi Jinping if China does not assist in securing the Strait of Hormuz. A spokesperson from China’s foreign ministry stated that “head-of-state diplomacy is very important in China-US relations” and noted that both sides are still in talks about Trump’s upcoming visit. When asked about Trump’s suggestion to send warships to the Strait, Lin Jian mentioned that recent tensions have affected trade routes and harmed both regional and global peace. The spokesperson emphasized, “China calls on all parties to stop military operations immediately,” and added, “we are dedicated to encouraging de-escalation.”
