The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has scheduled a hearing for the case against former MP Hirunika Premachandra and 14 others on August 17, 2026. This decision was made today, October 16. The complaint alleges that the group caused public inconvenience by performing an unauthorized street play near Independence Square in 2022. Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama presided over the hearing, according to a report from Ada Derana. During the session, police officers from Sri Lanka informed the court that they had completed their investigations and sent the files to the Attorney General for guidance. The Magistrate ordered the case to be revisited on August 17 to discuss its progress. Both Premachandra and the other accused were present in court when the case was called.
