The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has begun looking into the murder of underworld leader Makandure Madush. He was shot dead by two unknown gunmen while being held by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD). The CID plans to gather statements from the officers who transported Madush to Maligawatte on the day he was killed. Madush died on October 20, 2020, when the gunmen opened fire in Maligawatte. At that time, CCD officers had taken him there after he allegedly gave details about a drug stash. One of Madush’s brothers asked for a new investigation by appealing to the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security. In response, Sri Lanka Police forwarded the case to the CID for further action. The police also mentioned that after presenting the facts to the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, the Magistrate instructed them to obtain a statement from the Judicial Medical Officer and to gather related video footage from media outlets for the investigation.
