Two people have died, and two others are missing after a boat capsized at Gurunagar Jetty in Jaffna today (6), according to police reports. Investigators found that the group was on a trawler heading from Gurunagar Jetty to a church feast on Palaitivu Island. The boat flipped over about 50 meters into the trip, throwing passengers into the water. Initial reports indicate that around 25 people were on board at the time. Fortunately, 23 individuals were rescued and brought to shore, with 13 of them taken to Jaffna Teaching Hospital for medical care. Sadly, two of those receiving treatment passed away, as reported by the police. Local residents, along with the Sri Lanka Navy and the Police, worked together in the rescue efforts. The police have confirmed that two people are still missing, prompting the Navy’s diving teams to begin a search. Further investigations into the incident are being conducted by Jaffna Police.
