The Presidential Task Force for Rebuilding Sri Lanka met yesterday (05) at the Presidential Secretariat, led by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, according to the President's Media Division (PMD). This Task Force was created to manage recovery, rehabilitation, and rebuilding efforts across the country following the damage from Cyclone Ditwah. Their role includes ensuring fast and sustainable aid to affected communities, restoring critical infrastructure, and launching long-term development projects. During the meeting, members discussed the progress and future plans for the “Rebuilding Sri Lanka” initiative, as stated by the PMD. They received updates on the foreign aid that has been collected for the “Rebuilding Sri Lanka” Fund and the upcoming activities of the Task Force. It was noted that a full report on the housing and infrastructure affected by the disaster is expected to be ready by the end of this month. Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stressed the need to focus on those living in displacement camps as part of the housing plan for people who lost their homes. She also warned about possible social problems if these individuals stay in the camps for too long. District Secretaries from the affected areas joined the discussion through Zoom, and their concerns, opinions, and suggestions were also taken into account.
