Parliament approves extension of State of Public Emergency

Parliament has approved the extension of the State of Public Emergency with a majority of 100 votes. This evening, 108 members voted in favor, while 8 opposition members were against it. Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramanayake announced that the proposal was accepted under Section 81 of the Public Security Act. Additionally, the proposal under the Essential Public Services Act was also approved as it was presented.
