Salary commission to be appointed to address public sector salary disparities - PM

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya announced today that a salary commission will be set up this year to tackle pay differences in the principal service and other areas of the public sector. During her speech in Parliament on October 6, the Prime Minister highlighted that this new commission aims to create a long-term solution for the salary issues affecting public service workers. She mentioned that there have already been thorough discussions with school principals and their associations about these pay disparities. The government is actively working to find a permanent resolution. Dr. Amarasuriya explained that, following recent salary hikes, there have been challenges and inequalities not just in education but in various other sectors as well. She emphasized the need for a sustainable solution and expressed hope that the salary commission will address specific concerns related to principals.
