Another Iran Ship in Sri Lankan waters? Sajith demands clarification from Govt.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa addressed Parliament today (05), stating that reports indicate another Iranian ship is close to the Port of Colombo, within Sri Lanka's maritime limits. He called on the government to provide a clear statement on this situation. Premadasa also urged the government to make a special announcement regarding the torpedo attack on an Iranian naval vessel, which was launched from a U.S. submarine yesterday. He commended the Sri Lankan Navy for rescuing those on the Iranian ship but noted that the government has not yet offered a clear diplomatic response to the incident. He expressed concern that this situation could impact Sri Lanka’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Premadasa pointed out that although the government was aware of the destruction of a vessel near the country on the 4th, the lack of communication to Parliament hinders lawmakers from fulfilling their duties. Additionally, he revealed that medical staff at Galle National Hospital have requested 40-foot containers to store the bodies of Iranian nationals that have arrived there, and he hopes the government will address this issue. He questioned how the government could be unaware of events happening within Sri Lanka's maritime boundaries, warning that this could threaten national security.
