The final report regarding the alleged sexual harassment incident involving a female Parliament officer has been presented. During today's (April 4, 2026) session, Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne announced that the report was tabled. On July 25, 2025, the Parliamentary Staff Advisory Committee decided to look into the allegations through an external investigation. This step was taken after a female officer from the Department of Information Systems and Management complained about the incident. The investigation, led by retired High Court Judge Sujatha Alahapperuma, concluded on November 24, 2025, when the final report was submitted to the Speaker. Following a decision made during the Parliamentary Advisory Committee meeting on February 19, 2026, the report is now officially before Parliament. A copy of it has also been made available in the Parliamentary Library for Members of Parliament to review. The issue was first raised in the Chamber on January 7, 2025, by Member of Parliament Mujibur Rahman, who noted the harassment claim from the female employee. An internal inquiry was conducted, but the complainant was unhappy with the results, prompting the Parliamentary Staff Advisory Committee to initiate an external investigation. Judge Sujatha Alahapperuma called in all relevant parties, examined the details of the case, and prepared the final report. The report states that, based on the investigation's findings, it was determined that no sexual harassment occurred against the officer who filed the complaint.
