Missile attack targeted US Navy s 5th Fleet headquarters in Bahrain – reports
The United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Kuwait have closed their airspace, joining Iran, Iraq, and Israel in restricting their skies due to rising tensions in the region after military strikes between Israel and Iran. Bahrain reported that a missile attack targeted the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet headquarters located on the island. No further details about the attack were immediately available, according to AP. Additionally, emergency sirens were activated in Bahrain, which houses the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet. The interior ministry announced on Saturday that the sirens were triggered due to a danger alert sent to residents' mobile phones. AFP reporters in Manama also confirmed hearing the sirens. On Saturday, the U.S. and Israel carried out strikes against Iran, with the first strike reportedly occurring near the offices of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iranian news outlets reported that strikes occurred throughout the country, with smoke visible in the capital. President Donald Trump stated in a social media video that the U.S. had initiated “major combat operations in Iran.” He accused Iran of continuing to advance its nuclear program and attempting to develop missiles capable of reaching the U.S. Trump urged the Iranian people to “take over your government — it will be yours to take.” He recognized the possibility of American casualties resulting from Iranian strikes, noting, “that often happens in war.” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remarked that the joint operation aimed to “eliminate an existential threat posed” by Iran.
