Bill Clinton told lawmakers on Friday that he “saw nothing that gave me pause” during his time with Jeffrey Epstein. This statement came as the former president provided closed-door testimony regarding his connection with the late sex offender. Clinton’s testimony before the House of Representatives Oversight Committee was significant, as it marked the first time a sitting or former president has been required to testify before Congress. Democrats on the committee argued that President Donald Trump should also be subpoenaed, but the Republican chairman, James Comer, stated that would not occur. Both Clinton and Trump socialized with Epstein prior to his 2008 conviction for soliciting prostitution from a minor. They have both claimed they did not witness any signs of sex trafficking, and neither has faced any accusations of criminal behavior related to Epstein, who hosted many prominent business and financial figures at his extravagant homes in New York, Florida, and the Caribbean. During his testimony, Clinton said he would not have flown on Epstein's plane had he known about the alleged trafficking of underage girls and would have reported him. “We are only here because he hid it from everyone so well for so long,” Clinton remarked, speaking from his main home in Chappaqua, New York. Clinton used Epstein’s plane several times in the early 2000s after leaving office, and a large number of documents released by the Justice Department include pictures of Clinton with women whose identities are blacked out. Clinton asserted, “I saw nothing, and I did nothing wrong.” Comer described the hearing as friendly and noted that Clinton was helpful during the process. “He’s a charming individual, obviously,” he added.
