The Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board, which operates under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, has rolled out a new insurance plan for fishermen who dive. This insurance scheme answers a long-standing request from divers' groups and fishermen involved in diving activities. Now, steps have been taken to set up this specialized insurance for divers. This initiative aligns with the government’s vision of “A Prosperous Country – A Beautiful Life,” focusing on reducing the risks that divers face. Under this scheme, if a diver dies while working in the fishing industry, their beneficiaries will receive a payment of Rs. 1.2 million. The insurance also covers temporary disabilities that result from accidents while diving in the ocean or inland waters. Two coverage options are available: Rs. 1,200,000 and Rs. 1,500,000, depending on the plan chosen. Fishermen only need to pay an annual fee of Rs. 1,920 to get this coverage.
