Cuban authorities have reported that four individuals were shot and killed by border guards after they entered Cuba's waters on a US-registered speedboat. According to a statement from Cuba’s interior ministry, the passengers of the speedboat fired at a coast guard vessel that tried to approach them. The incident occurred near an island off Cuba’s northern coast, leaving six other passengers injured. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that the nationalities of those aboard the boat are unknown, adding that the US will "make determinations based on the facts" as they continue to gather information. He confirmed that no US government personnel were on the boat. The Cuban government stated it was unaware of the identities of the people on the speedboat or their purpose in the area, and they have begun an investigation to clarify the situation. The ministry’s statement on X mentioned that the Florida-registered vessel, with the registration number FL7726SH, was spotted near Cayo Falcones in the central Villa Clara province on Wednesday morning. When a Cuban boat with five border guards approached for identification, the speedboat's crew opened fire, injuring the Cuban commander. As a result of the confrontation, four individuals from the foreign vessel were reported dead, and six others were injured.
