Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arun Hemachandra met with Eui-hae Cecilia Chung, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Korea, in Seoul at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Their talks aimed to improve economic ties, create more job opportunities for Sri Lankans in South Korea, boost development cooperation, and enhance defense relations. They also discussed Sri Lanka's ongoing recovery, including efforts to restructure its debt. In a Facebook post, Deputy Minister Hemachandra thanked South Korea for its timely help after Cyclone Ditwah and asked for continued support for the Government’s Rebuilding Sri Lanka initiative. He highlighted the growing cultural connections between the two nations, especially how Sri Lankan youth are engaging with Korean culture, which strengthens relations between the people. As both countries get ready to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations next year, the ministers agreed to mark this anniversary in a significant way, including high-level visits and increased institutional cooperation. The discussions reinforced their mutual commitment to enhancing the Sri Lanka–South Korea partnership in the future.
