A former Social Services Officer from the Katana Divisional Secretariat has been arrested on bribery charges. Officers from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) took him into custody. He is accused of illegally obtaining Rs. 10,000 education assistance grants, which are supposed to be given one time by the National Secretariat for Persons with Disabilities for each eligible child. Instead of giving the money to the rightful recipients, he misused the funds for himself. The suspect will appear in court at the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
