Venerable Dr. Kirinde Assaji Thero, who leads the Gangaramaya Temple in Hunupitiya, Colombo, has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from KIIT University in India. This award honors his significant contributions to Buddhist studies, spiritual guidance, and the promotion of cultural ties between Sri Lanka and India. Notably, this is the first time a Sri Lankan has been awarded this prestigious recognition. The award has previously been given to many distinguished figures, including former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, for their exceptional service. In response to this honor, Venerable Dr. Kirinde Assaji Thero said it represents the gratitude of the Buddhist community in both Sri Lanka and India. He also reiterated his ongoing dedication to enhancing the historic relationship between the two nations and promoting their bilateral connections.
