Chaminda Kularatne, the former Deputy Secretary General of Parliament, has submitted a writ petition to the Court of Appeal. He is asking the court to cancel his suspension from duty, which he claims was done without a proper inquiry. The respondents named in the petition include the Speaker of Parliament, the Secretary General of Parliament, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, Leader of the House and Minister Bimal Rathnayake, along with 14 others. Kularatne was suspended from his position starting January 23, 2026. He mentioned that a charge sheet was given to him on February 2, which he has denied completely. Kularatne is requesting the Court of Appeal to nullify both the suspension letter and the charge sheet. He is also asking for an interim injunction to stop any disciplinary actions against him based on what he calls an unlawful charge sheet. Attorney-at-Law Rukshan Senadheera and President’s Counsel Sanjeeva Jayawardena are representing Kularatne in this matter. His suspension was decided by the Parliament Staff Advisory Committee (SAC), led by Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne, and is reportedly related to alleged issues concerning his appointment.
