General

The Department of Meteorology has released an 'Amber' advisory for fishermen using multi-day boats and the naval community due to a low-pressure area located in the Southwest Bay of Bengal to the south-east of Sri Lanka. They noted that this low-pressure system remains active over the Southwest Bay of Bengal. As a result, heavy rain or thunderstorms may occur, along with strong winds reaching 50-60 km/h and rough or very rough sea conditions in these waters. The Meteorology Department is closely monitoring the situation. They have advised the naval and fishing communities to stay alert and to keep an eye on upcoming weather updates and bulletins. Additionally, based on the latest information, there is a chance of cyclogenesis, or the formation of a depression, within the next 168 hours.
